40 points: Tim Burton Questions.

1. What does it mean to be an “outsider?” Respond in at least three sentences. Pick an “outsider” in one of Tim Burton’s films we have viewed in class and describe in two sentences how and why this character fits that description. Use examples from the story.

2. Conformity is when a person matches their attitudes, beliefs, and actions to group norms. How does Tim Burton view social conformity? In what ways do you see this manifest in his films? Do you see this happening in the real world?

3. Is isolation from society a good thing or a bad thing? Use at least one example from one Tim Burton film to support your argument.

4. How do Tim Burton and his characters approach storytelling? What qualities does a person need to tell a good story? What makes a story interesting for a viewer/listener?

Extra Credit

This is the last line of Big Fish.

"That was my father's final joke, I guess. The man tells his stories so many times that he becomes the stories. They live on after him. And in that way, he becomes immortal."

The theme of this poem is poetry has the ability to make man immortal. In at least two sentences, relate this poem and its theme to the last line of Big Fish.

January 24th and 25th Thursday/Friday

We discussed reading habits on Thursday.  We came up with interview questions we could ask peers about their reading habits.  The homework on Thursday was to take those questions and interview a peer.  You were to include one follow-up question.

On Friday, 6th period, since most people did their homework, got into groups and charted the responses that the found from their peers.  Then, they synthesized this information into a paragraph responding to question #5 on page 64.

Since only two people in 8th period completed their homework, everyone had to silently read the article on page 65-68 and were supposed to metacogntively mark the text.  They also were supposed to answer question #5 on page 64.

If you were absent, you need to read pages 65-68 and answer question #5 on page 64 on looseleaf.
